1. IN THE BEGINNING

1. IN THE BEGINNING

My grandfather (Sengo Shimizu) was a Japanese native who emigrated from Japan to the United States, shortly after being married in 1935. Being a skilled farmer, Sengo and his wife, Haruko, set out to start their new life and settled in the fertile valleys of Salinas, California. Continue →

2. A SEED IS PLANTED

During his internment, Sengo developed a bleeding ulcer worrying about his wife and children. Fortunately, he happened to be living with another Japanese-Peruvian man who knew the art of shiatsu. This man offered to help Sengo with his ailment and after a few months he was completely healed. Continue →

The planted seed was now growing into something very special. Around the early 1960s, Sengo decided to return to the USA settling down in what is now Seattle’s International District. Instead of farming, Sengo returned with his family to cultivate a new career. Continue →

4. GENERATION AFTER GENERATION

Now moving onto a 3rd generation of practitioners, it is both an honor and privilege to be able to continue this practice and healing tradition. It took me awhile to realize this path, but when I reflect on my family history, my path to shiatsu was very similar to that of my father and my grandfather. Continue →

BENEFITS

Shiatsu, in general, is a traditional Japanese form of bodywork of which the healing technique is based on restoring balance to the body. "Shi" stands for finger and "atsu" stands for pressure. Illness and disease are thought to result from imbalances in the natural internal flow of energy, or qi (pronounced "chee") through the body.

Shiatsu uses finger and palm pressure to restore and improve the continuity of this flow in order to harmonize the body, mind and spirit.Sennin-So Shiatsu is a unique form of shiatsu founded and developed by my grandfather, Sengo Shimizu, and has been handed down from one generation to the next.

Understanding of our body- what it needs, how it communicates, how it "breathes"- is something all of us should be better versed with. My first session was not only an eye-opener, but a general re-boot of what I thought I knew. Stan walked me through everything he did as he did it- allowing me to build up a model in my head that will help me visualize my body and my pain in a much more realistic and usable way. I had been a mild skeptic of "eastern" medicine up to this point. I am impressed.  More reviews →

My legs were cramping and keeping me up at night which was making it difficult to get a good night sleep. After my visit with Stan my entire body my feels better and I finally slept through the night last night. He gets all of my circulation working the way that it should. My session lasted an hour, and I would love another hour today. It was worth the drive to China town. More reviews →

The best thing I've ever done for myself is to have a monthly Shiatsu by Stan. He is a Master like none other that you'll ever find. Trust me, a 70 yr. old, when I say that nobody does it like Stan. He focus on your aches and pains while leaving you laughing heartily as you walk on air out his front door, back to your car, in all that free parking right outside his office. He's a gift from the gods, a ray of sunshine, among us. I highly recommend that you reach out to Stan, our healing gift! More reviews →

My husband has had chronic back pain and also shoulder pain following an unrelated injury.  Just after two treatments with Stan, his lower back pain seems to have disappeared and his right shoulder pain is a whole lot better.  He can now sleep on that shoulder without pain.  As for me, I had two treatments with Stan for lower back, neck, and shoulder pain and after my second treatment, I feel so much better.  What usually took 10+ sessions of PT and associated medical treatments was accomplished with 2 sessions so far.  Stan does not try to keep you coming back for ongoing treatments--his goal is to help you help yourself in your recovery.  I cannot say enough about Stan Shimizu--he is truly amazing!  More reviews →
